Darren Waller Enjoys Gameday, Helps Recruit

North Cobb Safety Darren Waller

Darren Waller out of North Cobb High School safety Darren Waller has been busy with the start of his senior season. He and his North Cobb teammates are 2-1 after three games. Darren has also found time to help recruit players for the Georgia Tech 2011 class.

After an opening loss North Cobb has turned things around. "We lost to Alpharetta to open the season but came back to win the next two including one against Lassiter that we were not expected to win." North Cobb should be the favorite to win their next three games. "We could be 5-1 heading into the hard part of our schedule. Darren has an interception and feels that he's played well thus far.

Now that Darren Waller has committed to Georgia Tech he's not hearing as much from other schools that he did prior to the commitment. "I just had some calls from Illinois and Vanderbilt and they are really trying to sell their schools to me but I told them I am sold on Georgia Tech and that is where I'm going to school."

Waller was on campus for Tech's opening game against South Carolina State. "We got there three hours before the game and did a lot of things while we were there." Darren made the trip with his parents and they had a chance to meet Coach Paul Johnson for the first time. "They felt really good about my decision after meeting everyone, not that they weren't before this visit." Waller really enjoyed the game day experience at Tech. "I saw the players warm up and had a chance to talk to other recruits at the game," said Waller. "It was a great experience."

Watching the players warm up before the game was one of the best parts of the trip for Waller. "You can see the difference in how they prepare for a game as opposed to high school," said Waller. "They take it serious and really hit one another to get prepared for the game."

Darren has been spending his spare time helping to recruit a teammate and his cousin. "I'm talking to my teammate Max Mason and my cousin Curtis Grant." Mason made the trip with Waller to Georgia Tech for their opening game. "They told him that he's in the running for the last wide receiver scholarship and that they are watching him closely." Waller and Mason would like to play together if possible. "Coach (Brian) Bohannon talked with Max a lot at the game." Waller has also been in touch with his cousin Curtis Grant. "I've talked Tech up a lot to him and he's coming in for an official visit now." Grant is scheduled to be in Atlanta for the Miami game on November 13th. "I would love to have him on the Tech team as we are real close and talk to one another a lot." Vad Lee has also been helping Waller recruit Grant. "Hopefully the two of us can get him to Atlanta."
