Tech looks to add K. Back to Offense

Whitefield TE/WR Kennard Backman

K. Back is not a new position in the Georgia Tech backfield, but rather the nickname of a tight end from Whitefield (GA) Academy. Kennard Backman at 6-4 218 pounds is a two-way high school player, who projects to be an offensive threat, once his college recruiting is decided.

Now that his senior season has come to a close, Kennard Backman is starting to get attention from college coaches. "I have offers from Western Carolina and Alabama-Birmingham and I'm hearing from some other schools as well."

Georgia Tech is one of those schools that have been contacting Backman. He has been in touch with Coach Brian Bohannon. "He's said there's interest and asked me to send them my senior video." Kennard is in the final stages of sending the video to Tech. "They want me to play receiver."

When it comes to naming favorites, Backman has Tech high on his list. "It's close to home and I like the way they play."

Kennard will be going with his gut feeling when picking a school. "It will be based on the people, the location, and of course the quality of the education." Backman currently has a 3.3 GPA. "I think I'll pursue business/finance."

Kennard is also beginning to plan some visits. "I will be going to Western Carolina for an official visit the weekend of December 11 and then UAB the first weekend of January." Backman has taken unofficial visits to Vanderbilt, Middle Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, and Georgia Tech.

Backman is also beginning to get visits from college coaches now that the contact period has begun. "Western Carolina was in today and I expect to have visits from Middle Tennessee and Air Force."

With the help of some input from his mom, Backman hopes to make a decision in mid-January.
