Tech Offers Buckin' Bronco To Run On Flats
"I scheduled a visit to Georgia Tech two weeks ago, and they had a long list of stuff for me to do while I was on campus," Nick Tompkins said. "I got to tour the campus and all the facilities, and then I sat down with (recruiting coordinator) Andy McCollum." After that, Tompkins got to speak with head coach Paul Johnson for approximately 45 minutes, then Johnson extended the offer to Tompkins to play football at Georgia Tech. The product of Snellville, Ga. said he was thrilled by the offer, but wasn't too surprised when it happened. "Coach McCollum told me right before I came to visit that they'd have good news for me, so I kind of expected it," Tompkins said. But Tompkins said he had a really great visit two weekends ago at Tech, having the chance to discuss his options if he decides to commit to the Yellow Jackets. Johnson told Tompkins that he is now the top A-back they are recruiting in the 2012 class, and that inspired the rising senior to think harder about Georgia Tech as an option for his college career. Tompkins hasn't started to make a favorites list though, because he has gotten several of his offers recently and would like the chance to visit all of the campuses before he starts to compile a list of the schools he likes the most. In the next four weeks, Tompkins plans to visit a different school, starting with Penn State this weekend. "I'd like to have the process wrapped up by June or July, but that will only happen if I find the right school by then," Tompkins said. He said GT is definitely on the right side of the process, mentioning the new indoor practice facility as one thing he really liked about his latest visit to campus. Now, the Yellow Jackets just have to weather the storm of the other schools and hope their top A-back ends up in Atlanta.
