All-ACC offensive guard Omoregie Uzzi returns as the veteran and the anchor in the middle of the Yellow Jacket offensive line. Omoregie and his teammates sense a difference in team chemistry this year as the team prepares for the 2011 season.

“A lot more guys are hungry,” said Uzzi. Omoregie Uzzi and his teammates are ready to get out there and make amends for last season. “The guys are flying around out there.”

While the team isn’t worrying about the NCAA vacating their 2009 ACC Championship, Uzzi echoed what he and his teammates are thinking. “We’re ready to go out there and win another one.”

Uzzi and redshirt sophomore Will Jackson look to be entrenched as the starting offensive guards for this years team. The coaches are looking for someone to step up and join them in the three man rotation. The injury to J.C Lanier has opened the door for some of the younger players. Freshmen Shaq Mason and Trey Braun are two of the younger players fighting for that job. “The young guys are impressing me with how fast they’re learning and their willingness to do what it takes to learn.”

Uzzi remembers what it was like when he first started to learn the offense and realizes it is a struggle for the younger players. “It took me a year to learn the offense and those guys are way ahead of where I was.”

One of the unsettled questions on the offensive line is who will start opposite Phil Smith at tackle. The leading candidate entering preseason camp is Tyler Kidney. Injuries last season and in the spring this year have opened the door for Kidney. “Tyler really believes he can be a starter for this program,” said Uzzi. Uzzi feels that Kidney has come a long way since he first arrived on campus. “I’m really proud of what he’s done.”

Replacing All-ACC center Sean Bedford will not be an easy task but Uzzi feels they have the right player in redshirt sophomore Jay Finch. “I think Jay is one of the most athletic lineman on our team.” Uzzi and his teammates expect big things from Finch.

At the recent ACC Kickoff, Uzzi was recognized by the media by being named on the first team preseason offensive line. Omoregie appreciates the recognition and will go into the 2011 trying to live up to that recognition. “I’m not a guy that harps on awards. I just go out there and do what I can do.”

Omoregie and his fellow offensive linemen are looking forward to getting back on the right track and to leading Georgia Tech to another ACC championship season.
