Chungong Cites Groh As Reason For GT

Our Lady Counsel DL Roderick Chungong

Good Counsel, Maryland defensive lineman Roderick Chungong has been telling people that Georgia Tech was his top school. Last night he proved that by committing to the Yellow Jackets. He called the coaches yesterday to inform them that he was ending his recruitment and making his commitment to Coach Johnson and the Yellow Jackets. Roderick becomes the 11th 2012 recruit for Tech.

When asked how things were going, Roderick Chungong's reply was "great". "I called the coaches at Georgia Tech yesterday and made a commitment to Coach Johnson and staff." Roderick felt the time was right and he knew Georgia Tech was the place that he wanted to go to college.

One of the main reasons Roderick pulled the trigger was defensive coordinator Al Groh. "The fact that he is not only my recruiting coach but the defensive coordinator for Georgia Tech was the main reason."

"My high school coach, Coach McFadden, knows Coach Groh real well and he told me that I wouldn't find a better coach to have for defense and that he is a great person." That was the final thing that helped Roderick make his decision.

Other factors in Chungong's decision included academics and location. "You can't go wrong with a Georgia Tech degree and Atlanta is a great place." Having Louis Young and Jeremiah Attaochou at Tech was also a big factor. "I feel I can come in and earn some time there."

Coach Groh is looking at Roderick as a defensive end. "Coach Groh told me that in the standard package I would be playing defensive end and in the nickel package I would move to outside linebacker." Chungong like the idea of playing on the edge. "In high school I play defensive tackle with some end so it will be a change but I think it will be very good for me."

The commit ends all visits for Roderick. "I was hoping to make some trips with my friend and teammate Ryan Watson to some schools but we didn't go. Right now the only trip I will make is my official visit to Georgia Tech some time after the season." Roderick plans to politely tell any schools that call that he is done and very solid to Georgia Tech. "Nothing they say will change my mind."

Now that he has committed, Roderick will begin recruiting his teammate Ryan Watson. "I will work on him and recruit him to Georgia Tech. We will have to see what will happen there. It would be nice if he did."
