Devin Washington Names Two Early Leaders

Jones DE Devin Washington

Jones (Orlando, FL) High School defensive end Devin Washington was in Atlanta this past Saturday to watch Georgia Tech knock off No. 6 Clemson. From the initial look of things, it appears that the Yellow Jackets have left an indelible mark on the talented defensive end/outside linebacker prospect.

"It was a big upset," Devin Washington remarked about the Yellow Jacket's prime time victory over the Tigers. "I knew Georgia Tech had a chance when they came in there. They weren't looking too great the week before when I saw them play against Miami, but they played great this week, and the atmosphere was great. I really enjoyed my time in Atlanta."

Saturday's upset wasn't the end of Georgia Tech's interest in Washington, however. Georgia Tech inside linebackers coach Joe Speed tripped down to Orlando to visit Washington's high school (Jones High) on Monday afternoon.

"He couldn't really talk to me because I'm a junior, but I'm aware that they are really interested in me and that they are going to stay in contact."

To this point, Washington has taken unofficial visits to Florida, Florida State, Miami, Georgia Tech and UCF. Of those five visits, two schools currently stand ahead of the others.

"I would have to say Georgia Tech and UCF stood out. After going to the game and driving around the campus at Georgia Tech that stood out to the max. UCF also stood out as well though. I don't have an official top list yet, but I'd say GT and UCF are my early favorites."

While he has not received his first offer as of yet, Washington is being actively recruited by the majority of the schools in the SEC, as well as UCF, Miami, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, NC State and Northwestern. He is trying to make it to a South Carolina game this season if possible, and he already has set up a return visit to Gainesville to watch the Gators take on Florida State.

"When I take my visits, I'm looking for academics first out of the school. I want to major in business with a focus in medical administration. I'm also looking for a great campus where I could see myself for the next four years, and a great coaching staff."
