Couple of Schools' Eyes on St. Germain's Foot

Special teams is generally an area that gets overlooked by the casual fan during the recruiting process, but specialists are a pivotal part of any team's formula for success. While Georgia Tech is not in critical need of a specialist in the class of 2012, the coaching staff has taken quite a liking to kicker Nick St. Germain out of McEachern High School in nearby Powder Springs, Georgia.

Holding offers from Middle Tennessee State, Georgia Southern and South Alabama, St. Germain has put together a strong senior season, which has attracted the attention of some of the nation's top school.

"My season is going pretty good so far," St. Germain said. "This season I am averaging 68 yards per kickoff, with 44 out of 56 resulting in touchbacks. I am also a perfect 38-38 on PAT's and have hit 10-of-16 field goal attempts with a long of 49. I made a 52-yard field goal and a 54-yard field goal in the same game last season though."

Those statistics have bolstered the amount of attention that St. Germain has received from college coaches. In particular, South Carolina and Georgia Tech have been looking intensely at the young kicker.

St. Germain recently made the thirty minute trek to Atlanta to watch the Yellow Jackets defeat the No. 6 Clemson Tigers in prime time.

"It was unbelievable. There was a sold out crowd, with everyone pretty much on their feet the whole time. It was crazy. I never would have expected that game to be that crazy. I talked to one of the redshirt freshman on the roster when I was there, and I also got to speak to Coach (Brian) Bohannon and tour the facilities."

With his unofficial visit to Tech completed, St. Germain's next visit will be to South Carolina to watch the Gamecocks take on Florida on November 12. St. Germain's interest in both the Gamecocks and the Yellow Jackets can be explained by the fact that he grew up following southern college football.

"I started kicking as a freshman, and ever since then my main goal has been to play somewhere in the ACC or the SEC because those are the schools I grew up watching."

As the process begins to wind down, St. Germain's top two schools should come as little surprise.

"South Carolina and Georgia Tech are my favorites right now. It's up in the air right now. I'm just waiting to see who is going to pull the trigger first. I'd still like to visit the schools that have offered me because I would like to show them respect, but it's going to come down to whether or not my family has the money."

St. Germain says that he would ideally like to have his decision out of the way by December, but he is going to wait and see how the process plays out.
