Darion Monroe's Eyes Opened To Georgia Tech

East St. John QB/CB Darion Monroe

Four-star athlete Darion Monroe recently reopened his recruitment following Texas A&M's dismissal of Mike Sherman, and the talented prospect from Louisiana wasted no time getting back into the swing of things, as he traveled to Atlanta to visit the Georgia Tech program this past weekend.

Darion Monroe's host for the weekend was sophomore A-back B.J. Bostic. Together, the two enjoyed a nice, casual weekend.

"We went to eat and then me and B.J. went to this game place and did things like that," said Monroe, describing his weekend activities.

This was Monroe's first opportunity to visit the city of Atlanta and the Georgia Tech campus and he says that he was extremely impressed with the Tech campus and the surrounding area.

"I like the campus and I like Atlanta. Atlanta is nice and it's big. It's kind of like New Orleans, but it is a bigger city. It's a nice set-up and there is a nice background to everything."

Monroe was very excited that he had a chance to finally see Georgia Tech, as he believes that his visit helped to clear up some misconceptions that he had about the program and Atlanta prior to his trip.

"It was different than what I thought it would be. Atlanta is kind of around Georgia Tech, instead of Georgia Tech around Atlanta. All of the people there are friendly. I thought that going to Atlanta, it would be kind of fast moving like a New York, but on campus, everything is within walking distance. They have nice facilities and everything is great. I like it."

For the time being, Monroe says that he is still committed to Texas A&M, although he does plan on taking additional visits before he makes his final decision about where he will attend school next year.

Monroe will also use this additional time to familiarize himself with Kevin Sumlin, who was recently named Texas A&M's new head coach.

"I think that's a nice hire. It was hard to let Coach Sherman go, but they hired a good man."
