UA Game: Monday Practice Report

Max Redfield

Practice got underway in Orlando at the UnderArmour All-America Game and the defensive line and secondary stood out on Day One...

ORLANDO, FL: With the first practice for the 2013 UnderArmour All-America Game getting underway on Monday, there was one common them: The defense's are going to be good.

Whether it was the defensive line, the linebackers or the secondary, the defense was clearly ahead of the offense for both Team White and Team Black.

One look at the defensive lineman, Robert Nkemdiche, Chris Jones, Carl Lawson and Greg Gilmore notably, there were impact players everywhere. And that's with Montravius Adams nursing a sole ankle.

A quick check of the linebackers, primarily Reuben Foster, Isaac Savaiinaea, Kendell Beckwith and Ben Boulware to name a few, showed more strength. Former NFL and Penn State standout Lavar Arrington was showing plenty of emotion and animation coaching the linebacker group.

And the secondary was right there with them, mainly Max Redfield, Shaquille Wiggins, Vernon Hargreaves and Noel Ellis.

There were still some good performances coming out of the offensive side, Christian Hackenberg probably the most consistent day, beginning to end, from the quarterbacks, Robert Foster and Sebastian LaRue at receiver and David Dawson and Denver Kirkland up front.

Tuesday, the offense will have their chance to answer back, but on Monday, the defense made their opening statement.
