Barnett made the 4 and 1/2 hour drive to tour the facilities and watch the game. One of the things that Michael enjoyed was watching Tech set up the pass with their running game. "I also really loved how the defense came in and shut Syracuse down."
The Barnetts had to leave at half time to get back home but it was easy for him to see that Georgia Tech was well coached and executed their defensive game plan. "The atmosphere and the the player interaction was great. They really responded to the coaches and stepped up and played extremely well on both sides of the ball."
At the present time, Virginia Tech, Clemson, North Carolina State, and Florida are the schools Barnett is hearing from the most. Georgia Tech, however, is now entering the picture. "They have been recruiting me since the 10th grade when Coach (Mike) Sewak was my recruiting coach."
Tech has since changed the coaches' recruiting areas. "I now hear mostly from Coach (Bryan) Cook and Coach (Mike) Pelton. They are starting to get back into the picture now that they have the areas all set."
On the visit, Michael spent some time with Coach Pelton. "He told me that he is losing a lot of ends in the next year or so and that he would really love to have me at rush end on his defensive line. Coach Pelton feels that I could be a difference maker."
Barnett had a chance to talk to Tech staff member and former Tech player Joe Hamilton. "He is a very cool guy. Barnett also talked with other recruits that attended the game. "It was a good visit."
Playing for Georgia Tech is something Barnett could see himself doing. "I know it is a long time before I need to start thinking about committing but I can see Georgia Tech being in the picture. I like the school, the coaches, and the area."
