Trevon Mathis - Profile
Woodland Hills (Pittsburgh, PA) senior Trevon Mathis got off to a slow start this season due to wrist and forearm injuries. We talked to his coach, George Novak, about his contributions this season and his recruitment.
Coach Novak mentioned that Mathis’ recruitment is started to pick up after he recovered from his injuries. “His injuries didn’t stop him from helping us come out of an 0-2 start to get all the way to the WPIAL finals. It was a tough loss but I am proud of him and all the players on my team this season.”
Georgia Tech is one of the schools showing interest in Trevon. “He was down for a visit a couple of weeks ago and the coaches have asked him to come back in January for another visit.” Coach Novak hasn’t talked to Mathis about the trip but he feels Trevon will make a return visit in January.
Coach Novak has been helping Trevon with his recruitment. “I am a mentor to Trevon. He lives with his mom and I help him with his recruitment.”
Trevon will be taking the SAT and Georgia Tech has asked for his transcripts. “I know he will wait until that is all cleared up before he makes a decision.” Coach Novak feels that once that happens, his choice would be Georgia Tech. “He really likes the school and the city of Atlanta.”
Tech is recruiting Trevon to play on the defensive side of the ball. “Trevon can play a lot of positions but Tech is looking at him to be in the defensive backfield.”
Coach Novak described Trevon as a great guy off the field who takes charge on the field. “He does have a mean streak in him and despite his size he is a very hard hitter and sure tackler. He has great coverage skills and can hold his own against any player bigger than him.”
