Cooksey Closing in on Top Three

Greater Atlanta Christian School linebacker Tyler Cooksey and his family made the short trip to Georgia Tech Friday to watch the annual spring game. This is a trip they've made many times before.

Tyler arrived early and met with Georgia Tech Coach Ted Roof. Coach Roof and Cooksey talked for about an hour about what Tyler's role would be in the Georgia Tech defense. "He told that I could play either the Will or Mike linebacker spots and that I was the type of player he wants."

Coach Roof looks for Tyler to be an every down linebacker no matter what the offensive scheme. "He told me his defense was really tailor made for me and he wanted me to be a part of it very bad." Tyler was invited back in order to go into more detail about life at Tech. Cooksey plans to make that return trip.

The last time we talked with Tyler, Clemson was showing interest. Tyler has since talked to Clemson Coach Venables and was informed that they already had a player committed at his spot. "He is hoping to work open a spot for me."

Tyler hopes to take a few more visits. He has already visited Georgia Tech, Clemson, and North Carolina twice. "I'd like to visit some others that are showing interest and maybe revisit the schools I have already visited."

The return visit to Georgia Tech helped them in Tyler's recruitment. "This visit really put them up there for me. They are way up there." Tyler will be naming a top three in a month. "I know that Georgia Tech will be one of those schools."

When it comes to recruiting, the Cooksey household is a house divided. "Dad really wants me at Georgia Tech and I know he would be the happiest dad in the world if I choose them. Mom is really pushing Clemson hard." At the end of the day it will be Tyler's choice. "I have to make a choice that suits me the best."

Tyler has set a plan for how he will handle the remainder of his recruitment. "By the end of spring ball I will have a top three and then by the end of summer and before school starts I plan on having a decision made." Tyler has handled his recruitment very well and been very upfront with all parties.
