Georgia Tech Commitment Stock is Soaring

I get asked about players every year that help their rankings with big senior seasons, and for the most part I respond with guys that didn't have any offers going into their senior years, but ended up with several to choose from by Christmas. In the case of
Michael Johnson
of Dallas County High School in Alabama, he has been a Georgia Tech commitment for a long time, and he is seeing his ranking sky rocket. See why in this version of
ScoutTV
.
Highlights can be deceiving. One only gets to see the very best plays during the course of a season, but taking a look at a full game can tell a much bigger story. Will a player go hard on every down regardless of the score? Does he shy away from contact? Does he make all of the catches?
The answer on all of these questions for
Michael Johnson
is an adamant "Yes".
At 6-5 and 220 pounds with a motor that doesn't stop, Johnson does it all on the field.
By their own admission, coaches make a lot of decisions based on junior film. When a player makes an early commitment as Johnson did over the summer to
Georgia Tech
, he may not get looked at as a senior by more schools. However senior film does make its way around the scout community, and Johnson has seen his stock soar as he has developed into a bona-fied star.
Johnson's ranking within the state of
Alabama was recently raised to #2 overall
, and his national ranking will follow shortly.
"I'm still committed to Georgia Tech," said Johnson, "but I am taking some other visits. I am going to
Purdue
on the 14th and Georgia Tech on the 21st. Purdue is supposed to come by the house on Wednesday (today).
Ole Miss
is coming by on Thursday.
Georgia
was supposed to come by on Monday, but they had to reschedule for Saturday."
Typically when I load highlight films for Scout.com I like to get two minutes of footage. Sometimes it takes several games to come up with that many highlight clips.
In one game, I was able to get a minute and a half on offense, and a minute and a half on defense. Johnson will be real easy to pick out as the clip plays; he's the one with the dirty uniform.
Johnson currently has standing offers from Georgia Tech,
Louisville
,
Clemson
, and
Southern Miss
, and that list could continue to grow as Johnson's stock just went through the roof.
Did I mention that Johnson has the chance to be the Valedictorian of his senior class?
Too much hype?
