Demaryius Thomas is arguably Georgia Tech's biggest name on offense in the Class of 2006 to this…
WR Ends Commitment Speculation
When asked if he ever really considered joining the Gamecocks, he replied, "not really."
The Jacket coaches got wind that the West Laurens standout was talking to South Carolina and called him up to find out about the situation."
"I just told them South Carolina had been calling and I was talking to them and they wanted me to take a visit. I didn't go on one though."
The promise of playing time at wideout on the Flats was a big selling point for Thomas.
"They told me they would let me play wide receiver and I might start. The coaches are good coaches and Coach Smith is cool."
Another big factor in the Jackets favor was superstar WR Calvin Johnson. Demaryius or "Bebe" as he's called back home, has tried to emulate the stellar pass catcher ever since he burst on the scene as a freshman.
"I want to play with Calvin Johnson. He's just a good a player. I try to model my game after him."
Thomas immediately gives coach Chan Gailey another extremely large weapon on the outside to test a secondary. He's a match-up problem for any DB that lines up across from him and could pay early dividends, especially in the red zone for GT.
