Georgia Tech 11 – North Carolina 1
The Yellow Jackets broke open a 4-1 game with seven runs in the eighth inning in route to an 11- 1 victory over UNC. Tim Gustafson pitched seven innings giving up only one run and striking out a record seven batters.
Whit Robbins put the Jackets ahead for good in the fourth with a two run homer. The homer was his 6th of the year. The Jackets were able to knock out UNC ace Daniel Bard after only 3.2 innings.
Lee Hyde and Jared Hyatt followed up their impressive relief efforts from Friday night by pitching hitless ball over the final two innings. UNC hitters have been held to five and six hits in the first two games of the series.
The rubber game of the series will feature freshman David Duncan going against UNC's Robert Woodward. Game time is 1 pm.
Faces in the crowd - Incoming recruit Andrew Robinson from Starr's Mill H.S. Andrew was indoctrinated in the ways of Tech beesball by the section 10 crowd. Also attending the game was former Jacket Tucker Barr. I had a chance to spend some time with Travis Chambers’s dad during the game. Travis has recovered from foot surgery and is planning on being ready for spring practice. He's put on about 5 more pounds of muscle. Congrats to him also for making the deans list.
