Georgia Tech 3 – North Carolina 2

The Jackets rallied for two runs in the sixth to take the crucial third game from UNC. Pitching for the third day in a row Lee Hyde picked up the win.

The Jackets trailed two one going into the bottom of the sixth after Dave Duncan had given up two solo homers in 5.1 innings of work. Whit Robbins started the rally with a single to right then Steven Blackwood's double was lost in the sun by the centerfielder. Mike Trapani followed with a sacrifice fly and pinch hitter Wally Crancer's infield grounder scored the go-ahead run.

Once again the Jacket bullpen was un-hittable. Brad Rulon, Lee Hyde and Matt Wieters closed out the final 3.2 innings giving up only one hit. Lee Hyde's win moved his record to 3-0. With Tim Gustafson now in the rotation, Lee Hyde has now assumed his role out of the bullpen.

The Jackets only managed six hits off of UNC pitcher Robert Woodward. Wes Hodges and Michael Fisher led the way with two hits each.

The win moved the Jackets to 5-4 in the ACC after opening the season against three of the top teams in the league. The series was dominated by pitching as the Jacket staff only gave up 5 runs in the three game series.

Next up for the Jackets is a Tuesday game with Western Carolina. Game time is 7PM. Look for Ryan Turner and Tim Ladd to see some action Tuesday. Neither saw any action over the weekend.

Faces in the crowd - Defensive coordinator for Georgia Tech football John Tenuta.
