GT Practice Report - Day 2

Avery Roberson

Day 2 was another light day and the last of them for a while. I'm told that Saturday's practice will be a good one to be at. The kids are really going to be worked hard tomorrow and they already know it. Look for close to 30 total secessions including the fan-favorite… Oklahoma drill! If you are attending practice on Saturday then be at Rose Bowl field at 11AM. As for Friday's action...

Here's a taste of the report...

4. It was also a good day for our two young receivers Greg Smith and Martin Frierson. Greg was especially good. I was told he dropped one pass in drills but other than that he was very good. I love his technique catching the ball; he's doing the right things. On low passes he's not reaching down for them. Even though he has a tall frame, he's bending his knees (almost to the point of taking a knee to the ground) and meeting the ball on a more level plain with his eyes. Once he makes a catch he's very good in the open field. He maintains a low center of gravity and runs strong. On full contact I can see him being tough to tackle. Martin looked pretty good too. He showed good concentration on a bobbled catch and came down with it. He hasn't been as all-around sound as Smith has been but he's doing the right things. I got the impression that Coach Chan Gailey was pleased with both as well.
