After talking to D.J. Donley a few times this week, he went ahead told me what his choice will be to attend college. DJ had already said Georgia Tech was a huge favorite so we had a feeling but hearing him give a firm commitment ended his recruiting process.
D.J., on our last talk you told me that Georgia Tech was a huge favorite. Has that changed? “Well, it has changed because I just texted Coach Gailey that I have committed to Georgia Tech. I will call him tonight and talk more with Coach Gailey.”
What were the determining factors in deciding on Georgia Tech?
“Location and feeling comfortable with the coaches and current players were the main things. Location wise, it is close enough that my parents, family, and friends can come see me play and put a lot of travel time or hardship on them. But the campus is far enough away that I will not be tempted to come home every weekend. Just a perfect fit location wise. As for the coaches, all of them are great. Coach [Chan] Gailey is awesome. My recruiting coach, Coach [Giff] Smith, he is great too. He is cool dude that is very easy to talk to, communicates well with the players. He’s very honest and I know I can trust anything he says as he is very trustworthy.”
Is there anything else that helped you in choosing Georgia Tech?
“Yes sir, I’d say that Georgia Tech was the best fit for me both academically and athletically. I can get the best of both in one school. You can’t ask for better than that.”
What do you think of the campus?
“The campus is great. It isn’t spread out all over the place like some of the schools I have visited and while it is in downtown Atlanta it doesn’t seem like it is in a big city. That a big plus.”
A lot of recruits mention that they love the facilities at Georgia Tech, what do you think of them?
“They are the awesome. I ran my best 40 times at a camp there and I had my personal best with my bench press there too. All the facilities there are top notch and great.”
How firm is your commitment?
“It is very firm. I am done with my recruitment and will not take anymore visits. I am solid to Georgia Tech.”
Have the coaches at Georgia Tech mentioned which side of the ball you will play on?
“Yes sir, they want me as a wide receiver. But after I get settled in and know the offense real well, I can try defense some down the line.
Well, the high continues for Georgia Tech as they added another 4-star recruit in DJ Donley. He is an awesome talent on both offense and defense that many high profile schools were after him. I know Yellow Jacket fans are happy to see DJ make it official now and look forward to see him play on the football field.
