Rashaad Reid Makes #12 For Yellow Jackets

Rashaad Reid, from Saint Augustine, Florida, has just added himself to the Georgia Tech class of 2008 as the 12th commit. It's been a bountiful week or so for the Yellow Jacket coaches, who also saw defensive backs Cooper Taylor and Jon Lockhart also just commit to them recently.

"I called (wide receivers) Coach (Buddy) Geis to tell him I was committing to Georgia Tech about 30 minutes ago," said Reid. "He told me to call Coach (Chan) Gailey and tell him too. They were both really excited about my decision."

Reid had come down to GT, Vanderbilt and South Florida at the end but chose the Yellow Jackets after falling in love with the school from his unofficial visit on July 6th. That visit was followed by the July 7th individual camp in which the GT coaches fell in love with Reid in return based on his camp performance and offered him a scholarship.

After the Tech camp, the only other visit Rashaad took was one to South Florida. "After that, I just had to take a moment to think it over then decide," said Reid.

Reid's parents are pleased with his decision. "That's what they wanted me to do, but I made the decision myself," said Reid who based his decision on the comfort level with the coaching staff from his unofficial visit and camp.

Reid doesn't plan on taking any other visits at this time and is relieved to be done with the process before his season can start so he can focus on his senior year.

Rashaad has a teammate, safety Carlton Lewis, who is also being recruited by GT and may also be close to making a decision too. Rashaad has already informed Lewis of his decision this evening. When asked what Carlton's response was, Reid responded, "he asked me why are you pressuring me now," Lewis told him jokingly. There's no telling if Rashaad's teammate will follow suite soon but there's little doubt that Reid is putting the bug in his ear.

GT likes Reid as a cornerback and appear to be very high on his potential. "They said that if I work hard there's a chance I'll come in and start as a freshman," said Reid.
