Scout.com spoke with one of the top prospects from the state of Georgia, Jemea Thomas. Jemea is a hard nosed football player from Fitzgerald High School. He had some news that would excite some fans from the city of Atlanta tonight. Jemea told Coach Kelly during his weekly call to Jemea that he was committing to the Yellow Jackets.

Jemea, I've been told that you have some news on your recruiting tonight?

"Yes sir I do. I told Coach Kelly that I wanted to become a Yellow Jacket and commit to Georgia Tech. Coach Kelly calls every week and I knew tonight that Georgia Tech was the place for me. He had me call Coach Johnson to make it official so to speak."

What did Coach Johnson have to say about the news?

"He was very excited to get the news. He said he wished he could suit me up and play me this Saturday. That's how happy he was to hear I was committing to Georgia Tech."

What made you pull the trigger tonight?

"I just knew Georgia Tech was the place for me. Every time I talked to Coach Kelly I felt more at home and that Tech was where I needed to be. Plus I like everything Georgia Tech has to offer from playing great football to having great academics. Plus being in Atlanta is a big plus too. It all added up that Tech was the best place for me. Also the way Coach Johnson handles his offense and defense was a huge factor. He is a coach that players love playing for and will be working hard for him. He made me feel real comfortable and like part of a big family."

Who else has been recruiting you?

"Well, Clemson, Purdue, and Vanderbilt have been recruiting me very hard but I am going to tell them that my recruitment is over and I am a solid commit to Georgia Tech. It's over as far as my recruitment is concerned."

Speaking of academics, do you have a major in mind?

"Not yet, but Tech has a lot to offer and I know no matter what major I go through, I will have a quality education."

How about playing position, I know you play just about everywhere - safety, linebacker, running back and quarterback - on your high school team, where will you play at Georgia Tech?

"Coach Johnson and I feel that practice will determine where I will play. He feels that I can play both ways in college and that fine by me. I'll play where ever he needs me to play."

What do you feel is your best position?

"I feel I am a better safety than anything else but I love playing so it doesn't matter to me. Just let me get on the field to produce."

Is there a chance you could enroll early at Georgia Tech?

"I'm not sure, as that's something I will have to talk to my academic advisors about but it is something I would like to do."

Will you be a commit who will try and get other prospects to come to Georgia Tech?

"Oh yes sir, I will. I will stay in contact with players I know that are interested in Georgia Tech or that Georgia Tech is interested in and try to get them to come to Tech too."

Dale's Take:
You could tell in Jemea's voice that he was extremely excited about his decision and when asked about other schools trying to sway him away, he came back very quickly that he was a solid commit to Georgia Tech. He left no doubt about that part. Jemea also had nothing but high praise for Coach Johnson and Georgia Tech during our conversation. Tech is adding a very solid player, one that will help secure other recruits down the line as well.
