The 6'4"-290 defensive lineman made the trip from Indiana to Atlanta this weekend to visit Georgia Tech. Joel received an offer and had a great time in Atlanta. "I spoke with my position coach Andy McCollum and also to Coach Paul Johnson." Hale also had a chance to experience college life and discovered that he really liked the city of Atlanta. "There is always something to do," said Hale. "That is a big factor in Tech's favor. I really liked being in Atlanta."
Hale talked with Coach Johnson about Georgia Tech and their football program. "He said I was a perfect fit for their defense. He then offered me a scholarship." Tech will be taking three or four defensive linemen and will be taking the ones that wanted to be at Tech. "He was very up front with me and that was very nice to know where you stand with him."
The Georgia Tech offer brings his offer total to seven. Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa State, Michigan State, Purdue, and Toledo have all offered in addition to Tech. "I'm also hearing from Arkansas, Boston College, Kentucky, Notre Dame, and Ohio State."
Hale has plans to travel to St. Petersburg, Florida on the 26th of this month for spring break. "I'm going to stop by Georgia Tech to take in some practices." Hale may also stop in Gainesville, Florida to visit Florida.
Hale is not ready to name a favorite or a list of schools. "I plan on keeping my options open right now and see what comes along and see what school fits with what I'm looking for." Academics are at the top of Joel's list. He's also looking for a coaching staff that relates well to the players, gets the most out of the players, and stays on them about academics. Weight training and strength training are also important to Hale. "The campus setting is important and I liked the way Georgia Tech is set up." Finally, winning is important to Hale. "Georgia Tech winning the ACC is something I really noticed and like."
Hale plans on making a decision before the start of his senior year. "I will make visits and decide which school fits me best." Joel is staying in shape in the off-season by doing weight training and throwing the discus for Center Grove's track team.
While he didn't name a list of top schools, Hale did say that Georgia Tech was a school of high interest right now. Georgia Tech looks to be a major player in Hale's recruitment.
