Trey Braun, from Leon HS in Tallahassee, made his commitment official this morning to Georgia Tech. "I called Coach Spencer this morning and also talked with Coach Johnson and Coach Kelly," Braun said. "I told them I wanted to make a verbal commitment. You could tell they are very excited." Braun mentioned that Coach Johnson's "no other visits" policy was fine with him.
Recruiting was really picking up for Braun and schools will likely continue to come after him but it won't matter. Georgia Tech was the best fit and where he felt he needed to be. "I went to some of their practices over my spring break," he said. "It was just affirmed to me that they are the number one school for me. I was going to wait but I talked with my old high school coach who coached me my freshman and sophomore year at Lincoln. He told me there will still be teams coming to see you and more offers are going to come. But if Georgia Tech was going to remain on top no matter what, then why wait? I might as well commit."
Braun, at 6'5" 275 lb., is very mobile and is a perfect fit for the Georgia Tech triple option attack. "It fits my skill set well," he said. "Their line is very mobile and forward. My dad played for Army in the 80s in a similar system." Another fit for Braun is Georgia Tech's academics. "I'm thinking about majoring in engineering, maybe biomedical; something where I'll have other opportunities after college."
When Trey decided to make it official to become a Yellow Jacket, he chose GT over other offers from South Florida, Central Florida, Illinois, Arkansas, and East Carolina. Auburn, Georgia, and Florida State were all recruiting him hard also. Braun will likely attend Georgia Tech's team camp and lineman camp this summer and try to make another visit as well before making his official visit next year sometime before signing day.
