Jonathan Battle out of Americus-Sumter defensive lineman Jonathan Battle is still recovering from a knee injury suffered last season. That hasn't stopped schools from stopping by his high school during the evaluation period.

Battle is satisfied with the way things are coming along. "A lot of schools have come by my high school and talked with my coach," said Battle. ‘I feel things are looking up for me right now."

"I think it is coming along very well. A lot of schools have come by my high school and talked with my coach. I feel things are looking up for me right now."

The schools began visiting last week and the visits have continued the second week into the evaluations. "Mississippi State was just in today," said Battle. "Others that have come by are Georgia Tech, Georgia, Tennessee, Jacksonville State, Georgia Southern, Marshall, and Florida State."

While all the schools expressed their interest in Battle, they also want to know how his knee is doing. "He said the schools are still very interested in me." Battle feels great with the progress of his knee. "I've started running and doing some exercises with it." Battle hopes to be 100% by his first high school game. "I really do feel optimistic about it."

Battle still has plans to camp at Georgia Tech this summer. "My teammate Kyle Champion is coming with me." Champion plays defensive tackle and offensive line for Americus-Sumter. Champion is also hoping for an offer from Georgia Tech. "I know he and Coach (Charles Kelly) have a good relationship just like I do with Coach (Andy) McCollum." Coach McCollum began recruiting Battle when he was at North Carolina State. "He said he was glad I was up for spring practice he said he was glad I was looking at Georgia Tech and he was still very interested in me as a player." It has been a childhood dream of both Battle and Champion to play college ball together.

With spring practice about to begin, Battle's coach wants him to work on his conditioning. He'll be limited to shoulder pads and helmet and will not take part in contact drills. "I will do the conditioning stuff to get my legs back and go from there."
