The evaluation period found quite a few schools, including Georgia Tech, stopping by to visit Newton High School's D.J. Hill. "Several schools have dropped by over the past few weeks and I have picked up three new offers from Southern Miss, Memphis, and Middle Tennessee State." Two others may be close to offering. "Auburn and South Florida say they are close to offering," said Hill. "I feel that my next offer will come from South Florida because I talk to them about twice a week."
One of the two in-state schools is recruiting Hill hard. "Georgia Tech's new coach, Joe Speed, has been by my school several times and my head coach tells me they feel they are close to offering me as well." An offer from Tech would make them one of the schools that he would consider. "I know that Georgia Tech is also looking at my teammate Akeem Hunt so that makes it interesting from that point of view."
Despite the six offers, and the interest from other schools, Hill is not ready to name any favorites. "Right now I am wide open because I'm still picking up new offers." Hill will wait to see if any new schools enter the picture. "I feel that by the end of the summer I can start naming schools that I like best and by October I should know which school I will be choosing."
Location may be a factor in Hill's decision. "Ideally, I'd like to stay within a seven to eight hour driving distance of my home so it will not be a burden on my family and friends that want to come and see me play."
D.J. is getting ready to attend some summer camps. "Right now I will be going to the camp at Ole Miss on the 10th of June and then I will go from there and see what I can line up without any scheduling conflicts."
Schools looking at Hill see him playing different positions. "Vanderbilt likes me as a running back, Memphis and Middle Tennessee like me as a safety, and all the others say that outside linebacker is the spot they like me best."
Hill is not sure if he will take all of his official visits. "I probably will take most of them if not all just in case a few schools are close in my eyes." D.J. will use the visits to get of good comparison of how those schools stack up against each other.
