North Cobb High School's Darren Waller has already been to three camps so far this summer. "I was at Vanderbilt [Sunday] and at Middle Tennessee State the previous Sunday," Waller said. "I'm actually on my way home right now (Monday, June 7th) from South Carolina for a camp and unofficial visit. It was good; I hadn't been to Columbia before. I really liked it and the camp was really competitive."
Waller mentioned that there's a chance he could be hearing about an offer from the schools he's already camped at (He already holds an offer from MTSU) "Both Vanderbilt and South Carolina were really excited about me. They want me to get in touch with them again really soon," he said. "I may hear about an offer from each of them fairly soon." Kentucky, Illinois, MTSU, Western Kentucky, Air Force, Marshall, and Illinois are the schools that have already extended a scholarship offer to the 6'5" safety.
More chances for more offers are ahead in the next couple months as Waller has more camps to attend to showcase his talent. "I'm going to Georgia Tech on Saturday after I take the ACT. I'll also be going to Auburn and Wake Forest in July and to Troy next Friday." Waller seems excited to get to Georgia Tech, his hometown school, and is really hoping that they offer. "I keep in touch with Coach (Brian) Bohannon and we talk quite a bit."
All schools recruiting Darren are targeting him at the safety position. Right now, he has a top 3 list of school that has been tweaked a little bit since the end of May. "Georgia Tech, Illinois, and Middle Tennessee are my top 3, in that order."
Location won't be much of a factor for Waller as he wouldn't mind playing close to home or far away. One thing does stand out to him though when it comes to making his choice. "The overall quality of the education is what matters most," he said. "I'd like to do something in sports medicine, so we'll see."
Darren has thought about hopefully ending the recruiting process before or after his senior season of football. But, as of now, he isn't sure; and rightly so. It seems there are still plenty of opportunities on the table to earn more offers this summer and beyond. However, it does seem that if he can stand out to the Georgia Tech staff this upcoming Saturday, then the Yellow Jackets just might have a strong, inside track to get him.
Many camps are on tap this summer for safety prospect Darren Waller. He will attend Georgia Tech's camp on Saturday and is hoping for an offer following the camp. Georgia Tech is high on his list even without an offer.
