Curry Honored to Be a Wahoo

David Curry has made his decision. The Buford (Ga.) safety committed to Virginia on Wednesday and he broke down his decision with HooNation.com.

“It’s relieving; it’s exciting,” said David Curry moments after committing to Virginia. “I am ready to have a good senior year in football and ready to start my career in the ACC.”

The Buford (Ga.) safety committed to UVa on Wednesday night after talking with defensive coordinator Jon Tenuta and head coach Mike London.

“I talked to Coach London and I talked to Coach Tenuta on the phone- it just feels great,” said Curry. “What UVa had to offer me in regards to an education and chances to play, I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity. So I pulled the trigger tonight.”

Curry was very impressed on his visit at the end of June, but decided not to pull the trigger until after he talked with the defensive coaches-since at that point, he had only talked to the staff via mail or twitter. Wednesday night’s phone conversation was certainly the difference maker.

"I called them, they answered and we hit it off," he stated. "It is the kind of defense I want to play in. They are looking for hard-nosed guys and that is what I pride myself in being. It was just a great fit. It was everything I wanted to hear from those guys. It just felt great.”

He especially loved hearing what Tenuta had to say about his film and future.

“He (Tenuta) just told me I watched your film and you are a hardnosed kid that likes to come down and hit the ball carrier and you can tackle in space,” Curry recounted. “You are a smart guy and that is what he said he liked. He said at UVa they need smart guys that can control the defense, and we need guys that can run and tackle in space. That is what I can do, and I pride myself in that.”

Obviously making a decision like this is a great experience for a recruit and his family. However, the Virginia staff was equally excited about Curry’s decision , and that excitement proved to Curry he made the right call.

”I got laughs. I got allelulias. It was surprising,” he laughed. “But it was really cool. They were really excited. Makes me feel good and makes my family feel good. I am just so honored to play in the ACC and for the University of Virginia.”

This future Wahoo is not wasting any time either and is already recruiting for the Cavaliers.

“I actually just got off the phone with my running back, Joshua Thomas, he is an absolute player on the field-an all around athlete. He has offers from everywhere. In my opinion a better linebacker and coach Tenuta told me they were after a linebacker, so I told them, although they offered him, they need to show him more interest because I think that he would part of the linebacker core at Virginia.”

For now, Curry just can’t wait to make his return trip to Charlottesville.

“As soon as I can that’s all I know.”
